Why I Take Essential Amino Acids Every Single Day

There’s a conversation happening right now around protein, muscle, aging, and midlife women… and honestly, it’s one we should have been having years ago.

Because somewhere along the way, many women were taught that eating less was healthy.
Less food.
Less protein.
Smaller portions.
More cardio.
Less strength.

And now, many women hit their 40s and 50s wondering why they feel tired, weak, achy, inflamed, or why their metabolism suddenly feels different.

The truth is, muscle matters more in midlife than ever before.

And one thing I personally added into my routine that has made a noticeable difference is essential amino acids.

I take Kion Essential Aminos daily, and after listening to this podcast recently, I knew I had to talk about it more.

This podcast episode explains so much of what women (well everyone) have been missing when it comes to protein and muscle health in midlife:

522: The Protein Lie Midlife Women Have Been Told (And What to Do Instead)

So… What Are Essential Amino Acids?

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Out of the 20 amino acids your body uses, 9 are considered “essential,” meaning your body cannot make them on its own, you have to get them through food or supplementation.

These essential amino acids (EAAs) are directly responsible for stimulating muscle protein synthesis, which is your body’s ability to build and maintain muscle.

And that matters more than most women realize.

Because after the age of around 35–40, women naturally begin losing muscle mass every decade if they aren’t actively supporting it through strength training and adequate protein intake.

Why Midlife Women (and men) Should Care

Muscle is not just about aesthetics.

Muscle supports:

  • metabolism
  • blood sugar balance
  • bone health
  • strength
  • energy
  • mobility
  • longevity
  • hormone health
  • confidence

The more muscle we maintain as we age, the better we generally feel.

Research shows essential amino acids may help support lean muscle mass, strength, physical function, and recovery in older adults.

And honestly? Most women are not eating nearly enough protein to support muscle health.

That’s one reason essential amino acids can be so beneficial. They provide the specific amino acids your body needs for muscle protein synthesis without requiring a huge meal.

Why I Personally Use Them

I started taking essential amino acids because I strength train regularly and genuinely care about maintaining muscle as I age.

But I also noticed:

  • better recovery
  • less soreness
  • improved energy during workouts
  • easier hydration
  • and honestly, I just feel better when I take them consistently

I like  Kion Aminos because they contain all 9 essential amino acids in clinically studied ratios designed to support muscle recovery and lean muscle development.

And for many women, essential amino acids are one small but powerful tool that helps maintain our muscle as we age.
