Feeling off? Start with these 5 simple things.
There’s a point in midlife where you realize…it’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing what actually works.
Because most women I talk to aren’t lacking effort. They’re overwhelmed,
tired, and trying to fix everything at once. And that never works.
So, if I woke up tomorrow and just wanted to feel better, more energy,
more clear-headed, more like myself, these are the five things I’d go back to
immediately.
Not complicated.
Not extreme.
Just effective.
1. I’d eat protein first, every single day.
Before I worried about calories, carbs, or anything else… I’d focus on
protein.
Because protein stabilizes your blood sugar, supports your metabolism,
helps with muscle, and honestly, it keeps you full and thinking clearly.
This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about intention.
Start your day with it. Build your meals around it.
It changes more than you think. Shoot for one gram per pound of your body
weight. For example, if you are 150 lbs shoot for 150g of protein.
2. I’d walk more, but not to exhaustion.
We’ve been conditioned to think more is better. More steps. More cardio.
More intensity. But in midlife, that mindset can actually work against you.
I’d aim for consistent movement, walking, getting outside, staying active
but I wouldn’t push it to the point of burnout.
Because movement should give you energy… not take it away. If you are
moving very much now aim for 8,000 steps
a day, if we are already getting that shoot for 10,000 to 12,000 every day.
3. I’d protect my sleep like it matters because it does.
Sleep is where everything resets. Your hormones. Your stress levels. Your
recovery. Your mood. And yet it’s the first thing we sacrifice.
I’d create a simple routine, nothing fancy.
Go to bed at the same time. Wind down. Get off my phone earlier.
Because when your sleep improves, everything else gets easier. Going to
bed and waking up at the same time really does benefit your body.
4. I’d focus on water and fiber (the most underrated combo).
This is the one almost everyone overlooks.
Water impacts your energy, digestion, and even your hunger signals.
Fiber supports your gut, your hormones, and keeps things moving the way they
should.
You don’t need a detox. You need hydration and real food.
It’s simple but it works. I am for a gallon of water a day so 128oz. If
you are not used to drinking water start with 60oz, then move up to 90, then
110 and keep going till you reach a gallon a day.
5. I’d take a few minutes every day to reset my mind.
Not an hour. Not a full routine. Just a few minutes of quiet. No noise.
No scrolling. No input. Because when your mind is constantly going, your body
stays in a stressed state. And sometimes the most powerful thing you can do…is
slow it down.
Try a 3-5 min meditation, or 3-5 mins of silence. I also like to add in my gratitude practice, listing 5 things I am grateful for that happened in the last 24 hours.
The truth is, none of this is groundbreaking. But that’s the point. We
don’t need more information. We need to come back to what actually works and do
it consistently.
If you focused on just these five things, you would feel different.
More grounded. More energized. More like yourself again.
Not overnight.
But faster than you think.
If you’ve been feeling off lately, don’t try to fix everything at once.
Start here.
Simple works.
Consistency works.
And you don’t have to make this harder than it needs to be.
