Stop Saving the Good Stuff for Someday
I want to ask you something this week.
What are you saving for someday?
Maybe it's the nice outfit hanging in your closet that you're waiting for the perfect occasion to wear. The beautiful dishes you only pull out when company comes over. The trip you've been talking about taking for years. Or the hobby you've always wanted to try but never seem to have time for.
Why do we do that?
Why do we convince ourselves that we need a special occasion, more money, more time, or the perfect circumstances to enjoy the things that make us happy?
Here's something I've been thinking about lately.
What if today is the special occasion?
What if we stopped waiting for life to slow down before we started enjoying it?
I think one of the biggest lessons of midlife is realizing that time is something we can't get back. And while we can't control everything that happens in our lives, we can be intentional about how we spend the time we have.
That doesn't mean every day has to be an adventure or that we need to make some huge life-changing decision.
Sometimes it really is as simple as using the good dishes on a Tuesday, buying yourself flowers, taking the scenic route home, or making plans with a friend instead of saying, "We really need to get together sometime."
Joy doesn't always have to be earned. And it certainly doesn't have to be saved for later.
I have a little challenge for you.
Stop saving one thing for someday and enjoy it this week.
Wear the outfit. Make the reservation. Light the candle. Sign up for the class. Plan the adventure. Call the friend.
Whatever it is, choose something that makes you happy and give yourself permission to enjoy it NOW.
Because here's the thing...
We spend so much of our lives preparing to live that sometimes we forget to actually live.
And I don't want that for any of us.
So here's your reminder this week: You don't need a special occasion to create a beautiful memory. You just need to decide that today matters.
Wishing you a week filled with little moments of unexpected
joy!
